Some Frustration – What’s the Hurry?

Maureen and I attended a church earlier this year (we had a web site up, and introduced ourselves to them). I received an email this morning from the pastor stating he wanted "to develop a website." I had assigned them a real, top level domain. If you search on Google and Yahoo for this church in their city and state, the domain comes up as the first website in the list. I reminded him of the domain name and offered it to them to keep if they wanted it. I also asked for some more information on what their requirements were. The next response I received was: Please desrequard my earlier request. "My missionary son helped me register churchnamebaptistcitystate.org. Thanks anyway. We'll be building our page soon and any advise is more than welcome." My first advice would have been to register a shorter name! The was no reason to register such a long domain name. Using Victory Baptist Church as a church name (this church is not a Victory Baptist Church)  and using Garland Texas as the location, which is better, "victorybaptistgarlandtexas.org" or "vbcgarland.org?" The Bible tells us: Prov 11:14 Where no counsel [is], the people fall: but in the multitude of counsellors [there is] safety. Would it be wiser to ask before decisions are made as opposed to cleaning things up after the fact? We will help...

Two Up, One Down, One Rescued

I worked with Grace Baptist Church in Edgewood News Mexico this morning to get their website up on the templates (gbcnewmex.com). The pastor's daughter was using the templates to update their website before I had completed building it! I had rescued a domain the Sunday before the Camp Meeting (a North Carolina Church). Some people from the church called the next day to get it back. I asked them to set up an account on ekklesia-online to facilitate the transfer. They said they couldn't figure out how to transfer the domain to set up a new website so they just cancelled it. This is not a wise thing to do if you have a ministry website. You stand a good chance (as they did) of losing the domain! Of course I won't be keeping it. On Monday (of this week) I received a call from their new hosting provider. They already had new content set up. I repointed the nameservers and their website is back up. I called and left a message for the pastor yesterday to make sure the people were acting on behalf of the church. The pastor called me back today and said he would prefer I maintain the domain for the church to ensure that it stays safe, and does not risk loss again. He said he would have me talk to another church member that will...

East Texas Baptist Camp Meeting – Thursday Night

Thursday night was another great night at the East Texas Baptist Camp Meeting. Country Gospel Music was provided by Living Proof, The Rochester Family, The Erwins, The Phillips, and The Wills. Pastor Mark Thrift of Parkwood Baptist Church in Houston Texas preached again. He started out with a “Bible Study” on doctrine (from Romans 4) which ended up as a great sermon.I spoke with Pastor Andy Russell about the Double C Boys Ranch (Ecru MS) and Martin Baptist Church (New Albany MS). I noticed they did not seem to have a web presence. Pastor Russell said they had thought about it, but had slow internet (dial up) and decided the couldn't do much about it. I told Brother Andy I could help. I spoke briefly with Pastor Russell's wife and daughter (who would be maintaining the website) and came up with the domains http://www.ccranch.org and http://www.martinbc.org. This morning I registered the domains and set up an initial website for them.I met with Pastor Duane Crane of Bethel Baptist Church in Rockwall Texas. We have had a website up for them for several years. He and I will be getting back together and getting his website...
