Domains are an asset!

I have not gotten on my soapbox in quite a while on the subject of domains being an asset (much the same as a building, a bus, etc). I have been checking for broken links in the baptist database (, and this morning I came across a link to a (former) church web page that now points to an adult website (even the new domain name of the landing page contains obscenity). The secular world is celebrating with numerous articles referencing the website (which used to condemn homosexuality) which is now pointing to a homosexual adult website!

"Anti-Gay Website Redirects To Gay Porn Thanks To A Lapsed Domain Name, An Intrepid Redditor, And Karma"
"Word to the wise: Never forget to renew your domain name. Case in point: the anti-gay church whose hate site now re-directs to gay porn. Because sometimes karma works in mysterious ways, and sometimes it's actually pretty blatant."

I submit to you preachers, deacons and Christian website administrators that there is no such thing as karma, but there is certainly the wrath of God. And that wrath (while it will someday be pointed at those that have hosted these porn sites, and those that practice homosexuality), that you and I will also be held accountable for what we did (or did not do) with the assets that God has placed in our trust. While it may seem a small thing to allow a domain name to expire and simply register a new domain, I submit there are church lists (and other ministries) that are linked to your website, and once that domain is taken over by an unscrupulous characters, YOU have now provided God’s people a direct link to pornography and sinful lifestyles. This includes children!

I am reminded of the encounter that kind David had with Nathan. He had committed murder and adultery, but the sin was made worse:

And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die. Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die. (2 Samuel 12:13-14)

David’s sin not only affected him but also those around him.

In this particular incident I have referenced above, the expiration of the domain in question without doubt “hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme.”

Here are more articles from the enemies of the Lord.

  • Any attempt for me to make fun of this site would be superfluous. These people have managed to become a complete parody of themselves.”
  • A group of anti-gay protesters have been unwittingly sending their supporters the web address for a porn website after they forgot to re-register their blog. Their domain… now redirects to a hardcore (and very NSFW) gay porn website specializing in "raw, breeding, bareback, hardcore XXX videos" after an anonymous Imgur user noticed the URL was up for grabs and purchased it. The site was re-registered on May 5 (2015), according to a Whois lookup. "They condemned gays and rock music outside Carolina Rebellion," a rock festival, the anonymous owner wrote in the Imgur post. "I bought the (unexpectedly expired) domain from their signs and pointed it at gay porn of people who probably like rock music. Fair?"
  • People attempting to access an extreme anti-LGBT Christian website will instead land on a hardcore gay porn website, all because of a web-savvy Reddit user.

I will end now, but PLEASE – we need to start treating our internet assets like they are worth something!  They ARE!
