Back in February, I received a contact form from Pastor Nick Cultrara of First Baptist Church of Frewsburg, a small Baptist church in Frewsburg New York.
They had a website for the church, but back in 2016, due to finances, they let their domain expire and it was taken over by a Finnish website that appeared to be pushing casinos.
I had a basic “unofficial” webpage up for First Baptist Church of Frewsburg that Pastor Cultrara found. On these websites are contact information and links providing information about our free web hosting services.
I responded to Pastor Nick’s email suggesting he might want to keep the old domain name they had previously had been using (firstbaptistchurchfrewsburg.org), since believe it or not it was still linked to places around the internet!
I don’t think I need to pick up my preaching here about letting domains expire and not checking websites you have links to? How much worse it could have been than a Finnish Casino website!
I told Pastor Nick that I could pull most of the information from archived copies of his old website and rebuild his website in WordPress for him. I offered to spend some time on the phone with him so he could customize the First Baptist Church of Frewsburg website and take over the updating.
I registered the domain firstbaptistchurchfrewsburg.org and built a generic WordPress template for the church.
Yesterday Pastor Cultrara found my email back to him (it had ended up in a spam folder) and gave me a call. We spent about an hour and a half on the phone.
He liked the template as it was. I walked Pastor Nick through the basic of WordPress, and he caught on quickly. He has already made some changes and has taken ownership of the website.
